Our residential homes offer care for those living with dementia, provided by staff who are trained in this very specialist area. The Sussexdown nursing home includes Princess Alexandra house, a purpose-built specialist dementia unit.

Our staff have a wide understanding of dementia care and are able to work with residents at different stages of dementia. Layout and decor is tailored towards dementia care, to give our residents a greater understanding of their environment and to make them feel more at ease.

For example, brighter colours may be used in recognition of impaired colour spectrum vision, and pictorial signs used instead of room numbers, which can be incomprehensible to people living with dementia.

Social activities are also designed to enhance the lives of people living with dementia, including reminiscence therapy and cookery.

We also offer family support and advice, and there are no set visiting hours so relatives and friends are welcome at any time.
