Achievement in Care Support Services Staff of Leybourne House residential care home: Best Care Team
The Care South Stars Awards recognise and celebrate excellent performance and achievement by all categories of the company’s staff. Poole-based Care South is a leading provider of high quality residential and home care across the south of England and employs more than 1600 staff.
Chairman Felicity Irwin said of the event: “This is a day of achievement and enormous success on which we can celebrate the hard work and commitment of all our staff.”
The winners of the 2011 Care South Staff Annual Awards Ceremony, held at the Lifeboat College in Poole, on 23rd June were:
Care home manager Neil Dominy has won an Outstanding Individual award and was recognised because of his infectious enthusiasm for promoting high quality care.
Neil Dominy, who was nominated by his staff and colleagues at Alexandra House in Poole and colleagues at Care South, won the title at the 2011 Care South Stars awards.
Neil, whose major influence on his career choice was his mother who worked in a care home, says: “I am honoured to have won this award, but I take this on behalf of a dedicated work team who make Alexandra House what it is”.
The Chairman’s Award for Outstanding Individual is given to a staff member who has shown outstanding excellence in carrying out his or her duties. Neil was presented with the award and a prize of a week’s holiday for two by Chairman Felicity Irwin.
Staff said of Neil: “Alexandra House has been transformed thanks to Neil and the morale he brings each day to the care team. The quality of care has increased and the atmosphere in the home is fantastic. He is a natural leader who motivates and inspires those around him”.
Resident/Service User Award
Senior home care assistant Julie Davies has won the 2011 Care South Stars award for best nomination by a resident or service user.
Julie, who is part of the Somerset and West Dorset home care team based at Crewkerne, has always worked in the care sector and joined Care South five years ago. “It’s the best job I’ve ever had,” she says. “I really look forward to seeing my work timetable for the coming week, and time just flies!”
The Resident/Service User Award is given to an individual or team who have had a positive impact on the quality of life of the person receiving care. Julie was presented with the award and a prize of a weekend away for two by Chairman Felicity Irwin.
Mother of three Julie was nominated by Mrs Mary Dempsey who received care services while she was living in Crewkerne. Mrs Dempsey said: “Julie was always on time, in spite of terrible weather, snow and ice. She was always cheerful and gave me great respect in all ways.”
Julie says that her main motivation is the people she looks after. “I get on with people of all ages and like to make them happy. It is very rewarding to get good feedback and appreciation.”
Best Admin Team
The IT team of Simon Powell and Seb Naulin has won the 2011 Care South Stars award for best admin team nominated by colleagues within the company, many of whom said they couldn’t survive without them!
Simon and Seb, who are based at the company’s head office in Poole, were presented with the award and a prize of a red letter day treat by Chairman Felicity Irwin.
The Best Admin Team Award is given to a team which has combined its skills to provide an innovative and efficient service to enhance the work of Care South.
Comments from colleagues in support of the nomination include: “We could not survive without them. They are always smart and smiling and give the impression that nothing is too much trouble”.
Achievement in Care Support Services
Activities Organiser Jennifer Webster has won the 2011 Care South Stars award for achievement in care support services.
Jenni, who arranges imaginative outings and activities for the elderly residents of Maiden Castle House residential care home in Dorchester, was nominated by colleagues who say: “She has true star quality!”.
The award is given to the person whose services support the delivery of quality care and have had an impact on improving the quality of life for those who receive Care South’s services. Jenni was presented with the award and a prize of a red letter day treat by Chairman Felicity Irwin.
Colleagues said: “Jenny is pro active, full of fun and energy. She puts her heart and soul into her job to improve the quality of residents’ lives. She will help with any aspect of work within the home, and is very caring to residents and to her colleagues”.
Best Care Team
The staff of Leybourne House residential care home in Bournemouth has won the 2011 Care South Stars award for the best care team.
Nominated by the relative of a resident, the team is said to have star quality because: “They are so kind and caring with people with dementia who don’t react in the expected way. I am a regular visitor and all the staff I have seen are caring and kind.”
The Best Care Team award is given to the team which has worked together to establish a creative approach to developing services which provide real benefits for people receiving their care. Representatives from Leybourne House were presented with the award and a prize of red letter day treats by Chairman Felicity Irwin.
