Care South’s Talbot View residential home in Bournemouth, played host to Liz McSheehy, the Director of the
National Skills Academy for Social Care last week.
Liz McSheehy was welcomed by the team at Talbot View, a residential home run by Care South, the region’s
largest independent provider of care for older people and met with Richard Hawes, Director of Care
Services, Moira Brown,Director of Human Resources and Training, and Janet Manners, Home Manager. Liz
was invited behind the scenes into the Kitchen by Chef Danielle Curtis who had prepared the residents’
favourite lunch of fish and chips.
Having met many of the residents and admired their art work Liz commented ”the Home has a lovely feel,
the staff are very friendly and welcoming.“ The visit to Talbot View was part of a wider tour of Care
organisations, to understand, firsthand, the challenges faced by employers in the care sector and to see how
employers are working to achieve excellence in skills and training development and care provision.
Liz McSheehy said: ”I was delighted to be able to visit Talbot View and see for myself the commitment to
delivering high quality care. The Skills Academy was set up to identify gaps in skills and training provision in
the sector and transform the quality and quantity of workers. It is uplifting to see the emphasis placed by
Care South on the importance of training and development of their staff and the direct positive impact this
has on the quality of care provision to the residents.“
Time was also made to visit the Training and NVQ Centre run by Care South at their head office in Poole,
Dorset. The Centre delivers a wide variety of courses in venues throughout the South West of England, and
provides comprehensive NVQ services for Care South staff and the care staff of other care operators across
Chief Executive, Susan Willoughby said: ”We were pleased to host Liz’s visit and demonstrate how Care
South’s excellent training and development programme provides high quality care.“
