Queensmead’s Janine May with resident Florrie Young prepare to take to the airwaves!
Queensmead has won a grant of £500 for the home’s garden fund from BBC Radio Solent’s Community Chest.
Radio Solent is supporting a campaign to give cash to grass-roots community activities and is helping charitable trusts to hand out £1,500 a week to a variety of organisations.
Queensmead was one of three organisations shortlisted during one of the weekly handout rounds and home manager Janine May was invited to the studio to talk about the home’s garden project prior to the winner being announced on the Friday show.
“Queensmead came second and won £500” says a delighted Janine May. “This will be a real boost to our fund to revitalize the home’s gardens. One of the things we want to do is to provide a secure walled patio area with seating and plants and shrubs so that the residents can sit out and enjoy watching people coming and going.”
Janine was accompanied to the studio by resident Florrie Young. Says Janine: “I think she pinched all the limelight, but it did the trick!”
All decisions on applications for Community Chest funding are made at the sole discretion of an independent adjudicator, known on air as the ‘Grand Judge’, who represents the charitable trusts and does not work for the BBC.
