Fairlawn home manager Gina Smith and her night shift leader Sarah Camp
Fairlawn home manager Gina Smith and her night shift leader Sarah Camp have successfully completed the New Forest Half Marathon to raise funds for older people.
Gina is the manager of Fairlawn, a Care South residential care home in Ferndown, and the pair have raised £600 in sponsorship. Some of the money raised will be used to purchase sensory stimulating equipment to enhance the home’s dementia unit, and the rest will benefit the national Alzheimers Society.
Gina and Sarah completed the 13.1 mile course in just under two and a half hours. This is the first half marathon run by Sarah, but not by Gina who has run the half marathon three times before, the first time being five years ago when she raised nearly £1,000 towards a minibus for Wickmeads, a Care South sister home where she was then deputy manager.
Gina says: “We both felt that this was something practical we could do to support our residents, and it gave us the enthusiasm and inspiration to take on the challenge”.
Fairlawn is one of 20 homes operated by Care South, a leading provider of residential, dementia, nursing and home care in the south of England.
