Knitting needles were busy in the run-up to Christmas as residents and carers in four extra care housing schemes in Somerset created their own nativity scenes.
The four finished scenes were displayed in the communal lounges of St. Gilda’s in Chard, Malmesbury Court and Park Lodge in Yeovil, and Bearley House in Martock where they could be enjoyed by residents and visitors.
Care South provides care and support to the residents of the four housing schemes and the knitting challenge was co-ordinated by the company’s Crewkerne office.
“The carers encouraged and helped the residents to take part, and did quite a lot of knitting themselves” says Lesley Sewell, the Extra Care Supervisor. “A great deal of work went into putting the scenes together, and I am very proud of what my carers did. That is what supporting people is all about”.
Inspiration came from a knitting pattern book Knitivity, Create your own Christmas Scene by Fiona Goble and Ivy Press, who gave permission for the patterns to be used.
