Lynda, a member of Poole Athletic Club, finishing the Brighton marathon in aid of Talbot View care home amenities fund.
Lynda Smith has completed the Brighton Marathon, raising more than £550 for the residents’ amenities fund at Care South’s Talbot View residential care home in Bournemouth where she works as a laundry assistant.
Lynda completed the 26-mile course in 5 hours 56 minutes, running with seven other members of the running club to which she belongs. “Brighton is quite hilly, so we had that to deal with that as well as the fact that it was a hot day,” says Linda, who has entered for the race again next year. “Sunburn was more of a problem than exhaustion though!”
Lynda has worked for Poole-based care provider Care South for several years as an agency worker and at Leybourne House, joining the team at Talbot View three years ago.
She took up running for pleasure and, wanting to achieve something before she reached the age of 40, she aimed for the London Marathon which she successfully completed last year, raising £750 for the Talbot View residents’ amenities fund.
“Knowing I am running to raise money for a good cause drives me on” says Lynda. “Although I train hard for a marathon, I don’t expect to break any records – I just aim to get to the end!”
