Weymouth and Portland Mayor Paul Kimber presented certificates to staff, relatives and residents of Mount Pleasant residential care home who completed a four-mile walk finishing at the town’s Pavilion Theatre.

The Miles for Smiles initiative, which it is hoped has raised nearly £500 for the home’s residents’ amenities fund, was organised by home manager Kelli Claxton and activities organiser Vicky Gillibrand.  Kelli said: “The Miles for Smiles name is something we came up with ourselves and Vicky’s husband designed the logo. We handed out leaflets along the way to remind people about Care South’s services in the local area.”

Paul Kimber said: “I know the Care South homes in Weymouth and so was delighted to be on hand to congratulate them on their achievement today. It was a sterling job!”

The 20-strong team of walkers included three of Mount Pleasant’s plucky residents who thoroughly enjoyed the outing. Would they do it again? “Yes, definitely!” said Kelli.
