Dorset House Community Spirit

26th December 2017

Dorset House has had plenty of interaction with the local community in Hamworthy recently, with a visit from students at the local middle school, and Dorset House’s Christmas Fayre.

Dorset House recently had a visit from the local Hamworthy Middle School. Students and teachers popped into the home one afternoon to show some of their work and read stories with the residents. The residents loved meeting the children and were very interested in seeing what work the children had been producing at school.

Earlier in December Dorset House hosted a Christmas Fayre to raise money for the residents’ amenity fund. The local community in Hamworthy were invited into the home, along with residents’ friends and family, to browse the many stalls and enjoy festive refreshments.

The Fayre had a wonderfully diverse range of stalls including a produce stall with homemade chutney’s jams, shortbreads and much more, a teddy tombola, a chocolate table, a knitted Christmas gift stall and a raffle. There was also a cake stall, and mulled wine and hot chocolate to top of the festive food and drink.

The Fayre also featured its’ very own Christmas grotto with Father Christmas and his helpers – Olaf from frozen and Rudolf the reindeer. The grotto was a firm favourite with children and adults alike, all of whom were delighted by the characters. Visitors were also entertained by the Dolphin Marching Band who played some wonderful festive tunes.

The Fayre was a great success for Dorset House with an incredible £600 raised towards the residents’ amenity fund. Residents and visitors all very much enjoyed the day and look forward to the Christmas Fayre next year.
