The first phase of an extensive nursing home redevelopment has been completed in Somerset by leading care provider Care South.

Beauchamp House, a listed Georgian manor house located in the tranquil village of Hatch Beauchamp near Taunton, has been sympathetically developed since becoming a Somerset’s first private nursing home in 1956. The elegant property is being further enhanced with two new extensions, which are true to the design of the original house, and will increase the home’s capacity to 54 rooms all with ensuite facilities.

Phase 1 has now been completed and its nine rooms are fully occupied. Work on Phase 2 commenced in November 2010 and is due for completion in November 2011.

“This is a major investment for Care South, and will result in our being able to offer elegant new rooms and purpose designed facilities in addition to the high standard of care already given,” says Susan Willoughby, Chief Executive of Care South.

The redevelopment will complement the level of care already provided on the site. Beauchamp House is set in lush landscaped grounds, and across the lawns its walled garden has been transformed into a unique development of 12 close care properties for people who want an independent lifestyle with care and support on hand if needed.

Care South purchased Beauchamp House and Gardens in February 2008, adding to the company’s 17 care homes and home care provision across the south of England.
