Volunteers give Alexandra House a garden makeover!

1st December 2011

Barclays employees are encouraged to give their time, energy and skills to the causes they care about. Employees who gather a group of five or more volunteers can apply for a grant of up to £500 to go towards materials and expenses for their project.

Alexandra House staff and residents were very grateful for the help and support given by the Barclays and their staff.

Alexandra House was pleasantly surprised to find it had been chosen by Barclays Bank in Poole as its nominated charity!

As a result 10 volunteers from the Bank gave the Alexandra House garden a makeover, donating and installing a new potting shed for the residents, bringing new plants, re-painting garden furniture, and giving the garden a general tidy-up.

“The garden is now looking fantastic,” says home manager Neil Dominey. “Barclays have volunteer days for their several chosen charities, and they have indicated they would like to make a visit to Alexandra House an annual event.”

The volunteers worked hard for eight hours, sustained by refreshments from the kitchen and support and advice from the home’s residents.

Barclays also donated an additional £589.00 towards the Alexandra House residents’ amenities fund, plus the funds raised from a cake stall they are hosting.

“It was great fun for all involved, and we are really pleased with the result,” says Neil.
