Training & NVQ assessment centre

Quality care delivered by dedicated and qualified staff

Care services should be delivered with skill and understanding, so at Care South we ensure our staff receive comprehensive training and have access to continual professional development. Our training and NVQ assessment centre delivers a variety of courses in venues throughout the south west. Training is also provided to other care companies’ personnel.

If you have never worked in care before we can provide you with all the necessary training to do your job well.

All care staff, including managers, attend a three day induction programme at one of our training venues. You will meet other new joiners and start to build friendships across the Care South family. During your induction you will be trained in our values and the way we like to do things including manual handling. Your training will continue once you start your new role supported by your supervisor and recorded in your Personal Development Folder.

Once you have completed your probation period new care staff can be nominated for an NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care. This is provided through our in house NVQ Centre where you will be supported by one of the friendly Assessors.

More senior care staff can undertake an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care to support their career development.

All achievements are celebrated at our Annual Awards Ceremony held in the summer.

Support staff working in residential settings are also provided with a full induction programme tailored to their roles. This is held over 2 days at one of our training venues. Once successfully through their probation period staff can also discuss their development needs. Wherever possible we will endeavour to source the relevant qualification through partnership with a local college.

During the course of your employment with Care South regular refresher sessions are held, either at your place of work or at one of our training venues. These may include: Adult Protection, Dementia, Challenging Behaviour or Food Hygiene. We can also provide you with self development booklets on specific medical conditions or, if relevant, a distance learning programme in the safe handling of medication.
