This week, residents and staff at Elizabeth House came together to celebrate a very special Kindness Day, filled with thoughtful gestures, laughter and shared moments that truly lifted everyone’s spirits.

Kindness can often be found in the smallest actions, and throughout the day there were so many wonderful examples of residents and colleagues supporting and appreciating one another.

Daffodils, Thank You Cards and Helping Hands

Maria and the Activities Team began the day by offering daffodils and little cards with inspirational messages to staff members, as a way to say thank you for their continued hard work and dedication. It was a simple but meaningful gesture that brought smiles across the home.

Residents also wanted to play their part. Joy, Yvonne and Peter C decided to lend a hand with the laundry, saying it made them feel happy and purposeful to help. Dot, who loves being involved in daily life, spent time helping the kitchen team and even enjoyed a little sing-along while she worked.

It was a lovely reminder that everyone has something valuable to contribute.

The Happy Jar Spreads Smiles

In the afternoon, the spirit of kindness continued with a creative activity called the Happy Jar. Small notes were written and placed inside the jar, each with a different act of kindness or fun task. Every staff member on shift picked a note and carried out the activity written on it.

Some were invited to sit down with a resident and look through a photo album, sharing memories and stories. Others were asked to give free hugs, offer high fives to five people, compliment a resident’s outfit or hairstyle, or share a cup of tea and cake together.

One task encouraged staff to sit with a resident and help write a letter to a loved one, creating a meaningful moment of connection. And perhaps the most energetic task of all was a five-minute dance party in the dining room before supper.

Maureen said it was the best task the staff had ever done from the Happy Jar.

A Dance to Remember

Ruby was the first on the dance floor as everyone gathered to sing “Que Sera Sera” together. Laughter filled the room as residents and staff danced side by side, enjoying the simple joy of music and movement.

Cindy summed up the day beautifully when she said, “Darling, this was a beautiful and fun day as we all spread kindness towards each other.”

Food, Fun and Friendship in Action

Kindness Day at Elizabeth House was a true reflection of our belief in Food, Fun and Friendship. It showed how small acts of appreciation and shared experiences can strengthen bonds, boost wellbeing and create lasting memories.
