A Joyful Diwali Celebration at Elizabeth House
On Saturday 12 October, Elizabeth House was filled with colour, music and laughter as residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon celebrating Diwali with the Kindness Group.
The event was a vibrant and joyful occasion that brought residents, visitors and staff together to learn about the Festival of Lights, a celebration that symbolises the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The Kindness Group led a series of engaging activities, sharing the meaning and traditions of Diwali in a warm and inclusive way.

Throughout the afternoon, residents took part in dancing, singing and art and craft sessions, creating beautiful decorations inspired by Indian culture. The room was filled with energy and smiles as residents joined in with the music and admired the stunning saris and colourful fabrics that filled the lounge.
Resident Yvonne said she was “mesmerised by all the beautiful saris”, while Peter shared that it was “a lovely opportunity to learn about Indian culture.” Maria said that the festival of light brought back “so many happy memories”, and Pam, who mostly communicates through facial expressions, had a radiant smile throughout the afternoon. She clapped and tapped her feet to the rhythm of the music, clearly enjoying every moment.
The atmosphere was one of warmth, connection and celebration. It was truly heart-warming to see everyone come together, sharing in the joy of Diwali and learning about its deep cultural meaning.

The celebration concluded with a delicious curry dinner, lovingly prepared by Chef Stuart, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. The fragrant dishes and spices added to the authentic feel of the event and made for the perfect ending to a wonderful day.
Events like this perfectly reflect the values at Elizabeth House and across Care South – bringing people together through food, fun and friendship. By celebrating different cultures and traditions, residents are not only entertained but also encouraged to explore the wider world and form meaningful connections with the local community.

The team at Elizabeth House would like to thank the Kindness Group for their time, enthusiasm and the joy they brought into the home. It was a day that truly lived up to the spirit of Diwali – spreading light, love and happiness to everyone who took part.
