A Joyful St David’s Day Celebration at Alexandra House
On 1 March, Alexandra House Care Home was filled with colour, music and the wonderful spirit of St David’s Day, as residents came together to celebrate Welsh culture with a day full of tradition, creativity and delicious food.
Baking Traditional Welsh Cakes
The celebrations began in the morning with the comforting smell of freshly baked Welsh cakes drifting through the home. Residents enjoyed getting involved in the baking process, mixing, rolling and cutting the dough before the cakes were cooked to perfection.
The results were a big hit with everyone. Resident Pat declared them “absolutely delicious”, and the homemade treats were enjoyed by residents and staff alike.
A Lively Welsh Quiz
Later in the morning, everyone gathered for a Welsh-themed quiz, which brought plenty of laughter and friendly competition. Residents tested their knowledge of Welsh culture, history and traditions, sharing stories and enjoying the lively atmosphere together.
A Welsh-Inspired Lunch
Our chef then prepared a wonderful Welsh-inspired lunch, allowing residents to enjoy traditional flavours while dining in a festive setting. The dining room had been beautifully decorated with Welsh flags and bright yellow daffodils, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere.
Creative Afternoon Activities
In the afternoon, the home was filled with the uplifting sounds of a Welsh choir, setting the perfect backdrop for a creative craft session. Residents enjoyed making colourful daffodil pictures, celebrating Wales’ national flower while expressing their artistic talents.
One of our Welsh residents, Peter, summed up the day perfectly, saying “It’s been lovely.”
