A Stylish Trip Down Memory Lane at Fern Brook Lodge
Last week at Fern Brook Lodge, our Memory Café was filled with laughter, nostalgia, and a touch of vintage glamour as we welcomed our special guest, Jan, whose lifelong passion for fashion brought a vibrant spark to the afternoon.
With the scent of freshly brewed tea and the sound of friendly chatter filling the room, Jan led residents and guests on a fascinating journey through the decades of fashion. Together, we revisited the styles and trends that defined each era — from the swing of 1950s poodle skirts to the elegance of tailored suits, and even the rebellious charm of leather jackets that symbolised the youth culture of the 1960s and 70s.
As we explored the changing styles, everyone shared their own cherished memories — the excitement of getting dressed up for dances, flipping through catalogues for the latest trends, and the pride of wearing something lovingly handmade. Each story painted a vivid picture of life and self-expression through fashion, reminding us how the clothes we wear often carry treasured memories of special moments.
The café was full of smiles as residents admired old photographs, discussed favourite outfits from years gone by, and celebrated how fashion has evolved while still inspiring joy and creativity today.
Activity Lead Natasha shared:
“It’s wonderful how something as simple as fashion can spark so many memories and conversations. Seeing everyone light up as they remembered their favourite outfits was truly special.”
The afternoon ended with plenty of tea, biscuits, and laughter — the perfect recipe for connection and companionship.
Our Memory Café sessions at Fern Brook Lodge continue to offer a welcoming space for residents, families, and the local community to come together, share stories, and celebrate the joy of reminiscence.
