A Sweet Success: Buxton House Bake Off Brings Joy to Residents
There was a delightful buzz in the air at Buxton House as residents gathered for our very own Staff and Relatives Bake Off – and what a delicious afternoon it turned out to be! The event brought together staff, relatives, and residents for a warm and friendly competition filled with laughter, community spirit, and of course, plenty of cake.
A Showcase of Baking Talent
Several talented members of our team donned their aprons and baked up a storm for the occasion. Sue from our admin team impressed everyone with a beautifully decorated lemon cake, bursting with citrusy freshness. Ada from the kitchen opted for a traditional favourite, creating a tray of perfectly golden flapjacks that were chewy and full of flavour. Sue from housekeeping wowed with her delicious blueberry cake, moist and fruity with a wonderful balance of sweetness.
Each bake was presented to the residents to taste test, and the room was filled with excited chatter as slices were cut, plates were filled, and the judging began.

Residents as Star Judges
Our residents relished their role as judges, taking their time to sample each bake and share their thoughts. With so many delicious options, it was no easy decision. Lively discussions took place around the tables, with each resident championing their favourite cake and praising the skill and effort that had gone into each bake.
In the end, it was Sue’s blueberry cake that took the crown. Residents praised its moist texture and fruity flavour, and Sue was delighted to be named our Star Baker. She was presented with a special Star Baker Hamper, much to the applause of both staff and residents.
A Recipe for Food, Fun and Friendship
The Bake Off was about so much more than cake. It was a wonderful opportunity for residents, staff, and relatives to come together, share stories, and enjoy a sense of community. The room was full of smiles, laughter, and a real sense of togetherness. Events like these are a reminder of how food can spark conversation, create connections, and bring simple joy to everyday life.
We are so proud of our team for their creativity, and grateful to our residents for making such enthusiastic and thoughtful judges. With such a successful day behind us, we look forward to more friendly competitions in the future – and, of course, more chances to enjoy some delicious treats together.
