On 5 May, Elizabeth House was alive with colour, music and celebration as residents and staff marked Cinco de Mayo with a joyful day dedicated to Mexican culture.

The morning began with a fun round of Mexican Bingo, where residents matched traditional words and pictures in a lively game filled with laughter. Peter emerged as the proud winner, much to the delight of his fellow players. At lunchtime, Chef Louria prepared a Mexican-inspired menu filled with delicious options that brought the flavours of Mexico to the dining room. Residents enjoyed trying something different, and many complimented the chef on the vibrant and tasty meal.

In the afternoon, the activity team hosted a Mexican Fiesta, with a lively performance by Colores Mexicanos, a group of four talented women who sang and danced to traditional Mexican music. Their beautiful costumes and engaging routines captivated the audience.

Norma said she was “fascinated by the lovely dresses,” while Dave and Elizabeth didn’t leave the dance floor, keeping the energy high throughout the performance.

As well as singing and dancing, the performers also shared insights into Mexican history and traditions, making it a truly cultural and educational experience for everyone involved. It was a wonderful celebration of music, dance and diversity — and a fantastic opportunity for residents to connect with another culture and enjoy the spirit of friendship and fun that Elizabeth House is known for.
