At Alexandra House, St Patrick’s Day was celebrated in spectacular style, bringing together residents, families and team members for a full day of fun, laughter and community spirit.

From the very beginning, the home was filled with energy and excitement, with team members embracing the occasion in wonderful green attire, complete with wigs that brought smiles to everyone around them. One particularly special moment came when resident Rita spotted a member of the activities team wearing a bright green wig and could not stop laughing throughout the day. Her laughter was truly infectious and set the tone for a joyful celebration.

A Fun-Filled Start to the Day

The day began with a lively parachute game, where residents worked together to keep balloons and coloured balls bouncing in the air. The room was filled with laughter as everyone joined in, trying their best to catch the falling balls. It was a fantastic way to encourage gentle movement, teamwork and plenty of smiles.

As the morning continued, residents took part in Irish-themed word games, putting their knowledge to the test while enjoying friendly conversation and a few light-hearted challenges along the way.

An Evening at the ‘Lucky Leaf’ Irish Pub

As the day moved into the evening, Alexandra House was transformed into the ‘Lucky Leaf’ Irish pub, where residents and their families were warmly welcomed for a truly special night of entertainment.

The atmosphere was vibrant and full of anticipation as everyone gathered for a legendary quiz and bingo night. The bingo had an Irish twist, with players matching symbols to their cards, eagerly waiting for the moment they could call out “house” and win a prize.

The quizzes that followed kept everyone fully engaged, with teams forming and a friendly sense of competition filling the room. From true and false questions to Irish-themed trivia, everyone was determined to win, creating an electric and enjoyable atmosphere.

To add even more fun to the evening, there were Irish jokes and poetry shared, bringing laughter and light-hearted moments to all.

Delicious Food and Festive Treats

No celebration would be complete without delicious food, and the team at Alexandra House certainly delivered. Residents and guests enjoyed a hearty Irish stew served with traditional colcannon mash, with many going back for seconds.

The evening continued with vibrant green cupcakes, adding a sweet and festive finish to the celebrations. Alongside the food, refreshments including Guinness, Guinness punch and a selection of wines were available, with non-alcoholic options ensuring everyone could join in.

Bringing People Together

Throughout the day and into the evening, what stood out most was the sense of togetherness. Residents, families and team members all came together to share in the joy of the occasion, creating meaningful moments and lasting memories.

One resident, Margaret, shared her appreciation, saying, “thank you for organising such a wonderful and fun evening”, while Ann echoed these sentiments. A family member even commented, “could we do a night like this every week!”, highlighting just how special the celebration was.
