Bat and Balloon Fun at Buxton House
A gentle way to move, laugh and stay active together
Residents at Buxton House recently enjoyed a lively and engaging game of Bat and Balloon, a fun activity designed to encourage gentle movement while bringing everyone together for shared enjoyment.
A simple game with big benefits
The aim of the game was simple. Residents worked together to keep a balloon floating in the air by gently hitting it to one another using a foam baton. The activity encouraged residents to move their arms and upper body in a low-intensity way, making it accessible, inclusive and suitable for different abilities.
As the balloon moved around the room, there was plenty of laughter, concentration and encouragement, with everyone eager to keep it in the air for as long as possible.
Encouraging movement through play
Bat and Balloon is a great example of how movement can be built into activities in a way that feels enjoyable rather than like exercise. The game supports flexibility, coordination and mobility, while also promoting social interaction and teamwork.
Residents clearly enjoyed the friendly challenge, cheering each other on and sharing smiles throughout the session.
Fun, laughter and positive wellbeing
Everyone had a great time taking part, and the relaxed atmosphere made the activity feel light-hearted and inclusive. Mo summed it up perfectly, saying it was “a fun way to exercise”, reflecting how enjoyable the session was for everyone involved.
At Buxton House, activities like this play an important role in supporting physical wellbeing while also creating moments of joy and connection.
From everyone at Buxton House and Care South, it was a wonderful reminder that staying active can be fun, sociable and full of laughter.
