Care South’s Community Fund donates £1,000 to Staracre Care Farm

Residential and care at home provider and registered charity, Care South, has donated £1,000 to Staracre Care Farm.

The good cause is the latest beneficiary of Care South’s Community Fund, which gives back to community groups, services and organisations which directly benefit Care South’s care home residents, care at home clients or staff.

Led by Nadia, the smallholding based in Bude has rescued over 130 animals in need, with some of them going on to provide animal therapy experiences to residents at Kenwith Castle care home in Abbotsham, which is run by Care South.

Care South’s Community Fund donation was presented to Nadia and her children, accompanied by a Shetland pony, chickens and a lamb, by Phil Smith, Director of Residential Care at Care South, Jo Passmore, Home Manager at Kenwith Castle, and Michelle O’Brien, Activities Lead at the home.

Nadia said: “We are so grateful to Care South for this generous donation, which enables us to continue rescuing and caring for animals in need, as well as providing animal therapy visits at the home. Almost all of our animals have been rescued and go on to live out their days with us. It is lovely to see the residents’ faces light up when they see the animals trot into their rooms and the communal areas of the home.”

Staracre Care Farm does such incredible work to rescue animals, while also creating opportunities for residents to experience the therapeutic benefits of spending time with them. These interactions not only provide comfort and companionship but also spark happy memories and encourage shared conversations with the other residents.”

Kenwith Castle care home provides residential, respite, and dementia care to residents with a dedicated activities team leading a daily programme of events and activities to bring residents together to socialise and build friendships. The home benefits from a large garden which plays host to a range of community events and expansive landscaped grounds featuring a picturesque lake with stunning countryside views offering a quiet place for a moment of reflection.

The grounds are also home to assisted-living bungalows, Kenwith Castle Gardens and Kenwith Meadows, as well as The Pavilion, which offers a meeting place for residents to get together for a range of events.
