Residential and care at home provider and registered charity, Care South, has donated £1,000 to the Donkey Centre at Highford.

The cause, based in Clovelly, is run by Sue and Bart Kelly, who have dedicated their lives to the care and wellbeing of working donkeys since 1981. Kenwith Castle care home, which is run by not-for-profit charity, Care South, often welcomes the donkeys into the home for special visits, much to the delight of the residents, including Sharon, who has many fond memories of owning donkeys.

It is the latest beneficiary of Care South’s Community Fund, operated by the not-for-profit care provider, which gives back to community groups, services and organisations that directly benefit Care South’s care home residents, care at home clients, or staff.

Bart Kelly, who runs Highford Donkeys alongside his wife, Sue, said: “We are extremely grateful to Care South for this generous donation, which will help us to continue giving our donkeys the care that they deserve. We love bringing them to Kenwith Castle and seeing the residents’ faces light up when they arrive. It is wonderful to know that Care South is supporting our work and the joy our donkeys bring to people.”

Care South’s Community Fund donation was presented to Sue and Bart by Jo Kitto, Deputy Manager, and Lydia Russell, Activities Assistant at Kenwith Castle.

Jo Kitto, Deputy Manager at Kenwith Castle, said: “Our visits from the Donkey Centre at Highford are always eagerly anticipated by residents, and it is lovely to see their excitement when the donkeys arrive. They create such a wonderful atmosphere at the home, bringing residents together and giving them the chance to enjoy something a little different. We are delighted that Care South’s Community Fund can support the work of the Donkey Centre at Highford and help make these visits possible.”
