Castle Dene Residents Enjoy a Wonderful Chick Hatching Experience

Residents, staff and visitors at Castle Dene recently enjoyed a truly special experience after welcoming the Living Eggs programme to the home.

The exciting journey began when 10 eggs arrived at Castle Dene and were carefully placed into an incubator, ready for the hatching process to begin. Residents and staff eagerly gathered each day to watch and wait for the first signs of “pipping” – the moment when chicks begin breaking through their shells.

There was a real sense of anticipation throughout the home as everyone followed the progress of the eggs, checking in regularly and discussing which chick might hatch next.

The excitement soon turned into delight when the first chicks began to emerge. In total, eight healthy chicks successfully hatched, bringing smiles, laughter and plenty of conversation to residents, staff and visitors alike.

Over the following 11 days, the chicks became much-loved members of the Castle Dene community. Residents enjoyed spending time with them every day, gently cuddling them, helping to feed them and learning more about how they grow and develop.

The experience provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect with nature and reminisce about their own experiences of caring for animals, farms and family pets over the years. The chicks quickly became a talking point throughout the home, with family members and visitors also enjoying the opportunity to meet them during their visits.

Watching the chicks grow each day brought a sense of wonder and joy to everyone involved, while caring for them helped create meaningful moments and shared experiences across the home.

The Living Eggs programme proved to be a fantastic activity, encouraging curiosity, interaction and engagement while bringing people together through a shared experience.
