Celebrating National Gardening Day at Fairlawn
At Fairlawn, National Gardening Day was marked with a wonderful outing that brought back fond memories, sparked conversation and created plenty of excitement for the months ahead.
A lovely trip to the garden centre
Residents enjoyed a trip to Basket and Blooms Garden Centre, starting the day in the café with a relaxing hot drink and a slice of cake. It was the perfect way to begin a day focused on enjoyment, companionship and shared experiences.
Choosing plants and sharing memories
After refreshments, it was time to explore. With a trolley at the ready, residents wandered around the garden centre, carefully selecting plants for the raised beds back at Fairlawn.
There was so much to choose from that the trolley quickly began to fill up, perhaps a little more than expected. Along the way, conversations flowed naturally, with residents reminiscing about the plants they used to grow in their own gardens and sharing stories from years gone by.
Betty took on a very important role, inspecting each plant to make sure it was healthy before it made its way into the trolley, ensuring only the best were chosen.
A day filled with joy
The outing was filled with laughter, conversation and a real sense of enjoyment. Denise summed it up beautifully, sharing, “This is the best day I have had in a long time.”
Moments like these highlight just how meaningful simple experiences can be, offering connection, purpose and happiness.
Looking ahead to warmer days
Back at Fairlawn, there is now a real sense of anticipation for the warmer weather, when residents can get out into the garden to plant their new additions in the raised beds and pots.
Looking further ahead, there is even more to look forward to, including enjoying homegrown strawberries and remembering the special day spent choosing them together.
Creating moments that matter
At Care South, we understand the importance of meaningful activities that connect people to their interests, memories and each other. Gardening is a wonderful way to support wellbeing, encourage gentle activity and bring a sense of purpose.
National Gardening Day at Fairlawn was a perfect example of this, a day filled with joy, friendship and moments that will be remembered for a long time.
