Residents and the local community gathered in the garden of Marjorie House for a special concert featuring a performance by musicians from Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (BSO).

Marjorie House care home, on Crichel Mount Road, hosted the ‘Summer Quartet’ event in partnership with the BSO for residents, relatives and members of the local community.

Musicians who performed at the ‘Summer Quartet’ event included included violinists Julie-Anne Gillett-Smith and Vicky Berry, viola player Melissa Doody, and cellist Phil Collingham.

A commemorative candlelit event at Kenwith Castle care home to honour missed loved ones has raised £1,000 for a local hospice charity. Kenwith Castle care home in Abbotsham, run by not-for-profit charity, Care South, hosted their third Candles on the Lake event, which was attended by residents, their relatives and friends, and local people. It is just one of many initiatives the home organises throughout the year in partnership with the local community. Battery-powered candles were lit and placed in candle bags bearing written messages to missed loved ones, which were blessed by Reverend Jules Harris, Team Rector for Torridge Coastal Mission Community.

Peter, who lives at Care South’s Maiden Castle House, enjoyed a memorable trip to watch his favourite football team, Weymouth FC, thanks to the dedicated support of the care team. During conversations with staff, Peter shared that he had not been able to visit a match for many years and would love the chance to return. The team arranged a special day out for Peter and his brother, Paul, and Weymouth FC welcomed them with great kindness. Peter met the manager, spent time with the club mascot and watched the team score during the match. It was a heartwarming day that brought back treasured memories and showed the positive impact of meaningful experiences for those we support.

Paul receives assistance from carers based out of Care South at Home’s West Dorset office

A retired pilot who lives at a Dorset care home had his birthday wish come true when he sat in the captain’s seat of an aeroplane. David was joined by his daughter, Kirsteen, and Sam, Activities Lead for Dorset House care home based in Hamworthy, for the special experience ahead of his 80th birthday later this year. David got to sit in the cockpit of one of TUI’s Boeing 747s parked outside the terminal at Bournemouth Airport.

Kenwith Castle care home hosted its first Candles on the Lake event, a special commemorative candlelit event at their care village in Abbotsham.

It was open to the public, local carers who work in and around Bideford, as well as the residents and their families from Kenwith Castle and Fremington Manor care home based near Barnstable, which is also part of the not-for-profit charity Care South. It was also attended by the residents of the Kenwith Castle Gardens and Kenwith Meadows assisted living bungalows based in the care village. Funds were raised for North Devon Hospice.

A dream came true for Alexandra House resident, Eileen, aged 102, who wanted to go ice skating. We made it happen as safely as possible and it caused quite the media frenzy.

Alexandra House care home in Parkstone was delighted to open its home for a special family fun day with the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust team.
