COVID-19 (Coronavirus) is a respiratory “flu-like” illness. It normally presents with fever and a dry cough and in some cases breathlessness. Older and frail people are usually more at risk of a severe illness and therefore it is of the utmost importance that we are able to mitigate the risk and spread of this infection in our care homes.
The welfare of our residents and staff is extremely important to us and we continue to follow national guidelines at every level throughout Care South.
We have today made the very difficult decision that it is in our residents’ best interests for all visits to our care homes to cease unless there are very exceptional circumstances. We do of course appreciate just how hard this is for relatives who will be unable to visit loved ones and we are grateful for your understanding and patience.
Our primary focus remains on keeping all of our residents and service users safe and our staff well-equipped and protected so that they can continue to observe the very highest standards of care, cleanliness and infection control throughout all of our care homes and offices.
If you feel that your circumstances are exceptional, please speak with the Home Manager prior to visiting the home.
If you are to proceed with your visit, you will still be asked to confirm, prior to entry, that you are not suffering from either of the following symptoms:-
- a high temperature – this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back (you do not need to measure your temperature); or
- a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual).
Our staff are working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of all of our residents and service users, making sure that they are well cared for, well fed, hydrated and entertained in environments observing the very highest infection control measures, as always.
We continue to support, recognise and reward our staff during this national crisis, and are appreciative of their incredibly important contribution to our teams in looking after your loved ones. They are truly remarkable.
We remain close to all our suppliers across the business to ensure that those we care for see an uninterrupted service and that we are all still able to go about our usual business of caring – even if it is not business as usual.
Please be safe yourself and be assured that if, at any time, we have concerns about anyone in our care homes or home care services in relation to COVID-19 (Coronavirus), we will of course speak with named contacts for that care home or home care service as a matter of urgency.
We will continue to communicate any changes to our approach with this ongoing situation through this page on our website, and we continue to be grateful for your patience and understanding. We have made arrangements for Skype communications with your loved ones at each of our homes. Please contact the home for further information.
Your loved one is incredibly important to us.
