Residents at Dorset House care home in Hamworthy enjoyed a fun-filled day of pirate adventures as they came together to celebrate Harry Paye Day, learning about one of Poole’s most famous historical figures.

The themed celebration began with a fascinating morning session introducing residents to the story of Harry Paye, the legendary medieval pirate and privateer closely associated with the town of Poole. While some residents were already familiar with his exploits, many enjoyed discovering his remarkable story for the very first time.

The morning continued with a pirate-themed treasure hunt, where residents searched the room for hidden pirate pictures before putting their newfound knowledge to the test in a lively pirate quiz. The activities prompted plenty of laughter and friendly competition as everyone worked together to solve clues and answer questions.

Adding to the fun, Activities Lead Amy stayed in character throughout the day, entertaining residents with her pirate voice. Although, by her own admission, the accent sounded “more like a farmer than a pirate”, much to the amusement of everyone taking part.

In the afternoon, the celebrations continued as residents donned pirate hats and stickers before singing and dancing along to traditional sea shanties. The home was filled with smiles, laughter and music as residents embraced the spirit of the day and enjoyed spending quality time together.

The Harry Paye Day celebration is just one example of the varied activities organised by the Dorset House team, who regularly create engaging experiences that encourage residents to learn something new, reminisce, socialise and have fun together.
