Elizabeth House hold multicultural day
A few weeks ago, the residents and staff members at Elizabeth House were discussing different cultures and backgrounds when Black History Month came into the conversation. As a result, the activities team organized a multicultural day on the 22nd of February. In the morning, they discussed important historical figures such as Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Marian Anderson, Muhammad Ali, and Maya Angelou, the poet and author of “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings.” Pauline mentioned she had read the book and found it fascinating. Rosa Parks and the impact of her refusing to give up her seat on a bus in Alabama in 1955 were also discussed. Lewis Latimer, who created long-lasting light bulbs with a carbon filament, was another notable figure mentioned. Norma expressed that the history lesson was interesting.
The residents enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by Chef Louria, featuring Jollof rice, dumplings, stew chicken, fried fish, mac and cheese, and a sweet potato spice cake that went down well with rum and coke. Vera appreciated trying different foods, and Yvonne particularly enjoyed the chicken.
The special event concluded with some music. Miss Gena Rose’s lovely voice entertained everyone, and Mayra sang and danced in her chair, clearly enjoying Bob Marley songs. Ruby, Dot, and Brenda kept the dance floor busy while the group listened to an original song composed by Gena Rose called “It’s All About Love.” It was a lovely way to spend the day at Elizabeth House, filled with love, food, fun, and friendship.
