Residents at Fairlawn welcomed members of the local community to the home for a special Dementia Awareness Open Day, offering visitors the opportunity to experience the calming and compassionate benefits of Namaste Care.

The event brought together residents Betty, Rosemary and Jean alongside members of the popular Memory Lane group, which takes place at Fairlawn every Wednesday. Guests enjoyed a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere designed to promote relaxation, comfort and meaningful connection.

The room was softly lit with calming lights and sensory touches to create a soothing environment for everyone attending. As Betty entered the room, she smiled and commented on “how beautiful it looked with all the lights,” setting the tone for a warm and uplifting afternoon.

Throughout the session, residents and visitors enjoyed gentle hand massages, snacks and refreshments while spending quality time together in a calm and supportive setting. The Namaste experience encouraged relaxation, conversation and emotional connection, with many attendees commenting on how comforting and enjoyable the afternoon had been.

One member of the Memory Lane group shared: “Her hands felt lovely and I haven’t felt so good in a long time.”

Namaste Care is a gentle, holistic approach that focuses on comfort, sensory engagement and meaningful interaction for people living with dementia. At Care South, Namaste sessions are designed to support wellbeing, reduce anxiety and help residents feel relaxed, valued and connected.
