Fern Brook Lodge Opens Its Doors for a Memorable Care Home Open Day
Residents, families and members of the local community enjoyed a wonderful day of friendship, reminiscence and celebration as Fern Brook Lodge welcomed visitors for a special Care Home Open Day.
The event showcased the warm and welcoming atmosphere at the Gillingham care home, giving guests the opportunity to experience first-hand the vibrant lifestyle enjoyed by residents every day. At Fern Brook Lodge, part of not-for-profit charity Care South, Food, Fun and Friendship are at the heart of everything the team does, and the Open Day was a perfect reflection of this commitment.
A Morning Filled with Memories
The day began with a fascinating reminiscence session led by Jan from Rhymes, Rural and Reminiscence. Residents and visitors were transported back in time as Jan shared stories and sparked conversations about weddings, family celebrations and cherished traditions from years gone by.
The session encouraged residents to reflect on their own treasured memories, with many sharing stories of wedding days, family gatherings and special occasions that had remained close to their hearts. Adding to the fun, several residents dressed up for the occasion, helping to bring the theme to life and creating plenty of smiles and laughter throughout the morning.
The reminiscence session provided a wonderful opportunity for residents to connect through shared experiences while celebrating the rich and varied lives they have lived.
A Traditional High Tea and Live Entertainment
Following the morning’s activities, residents and their families were treated to a delicious high tea prepared by Fern Brook Lodge’s talented Head Chef and catering team.
Beautifully presented sandwiches, cakes and sweet treats were enjoyed as everyone gathered together to continue the day’s celebrations. The dining room was filled with conversation, laughter and the welcoming atmosphere that Fern Brook Lodge is known for.
The afternoon’s entertainment was provided by popular musician Les Chaffe, whose lively performance soon had residents, relatives and team members singing and dancing along. Familiar songs filled the room, encouraging everyone to join in and creating a joyful atmosphere that continued throughout the afternoon.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing residents and their loved ones enjoying quality time together, sharing special moments and making new memories.
