Residents and staff from Maiden Castle House recently enjoyed a toe-tapping trip down memory lane at the Plaza Cinema in Dorchester, attending a special Dementia-Friendly screening of the iconic musical Grease — and what a fantastic experience it was!

A Warm Welcome and a Classic Film

Organised by Home Instead, the event offered a relaxed, accessible environment designed especially for people living with dementia. With adapted lighting, volume and seating, the screening made it easy for everyone to enjoy the experience in comfort and without pressure.

From the opening notes of “Summer Nights” to the show-stopping finale of “You’re the One That I Want,” residents were singing along, tapping their feet and sharing smiles throughout the film. It was more than just a cinema trip — it was an uplifting moment of shared joy, nostalgia and inclusion.

Community in Action

It was truly inspiring to see so many members of the local community come together for this meaningful event. The screening was a beautiful example of how cinema can unite generations and provide stimulating experiences that support wellbeing and memory in a fun, familiar setting.

A Sincere Thank You

A huge thank you goes out to Home Instead and the team at The Plaza Cinema for creating such a welcoming and dementia-friendly space.
