Fern Brook Lodge has been designed with resident’s comfort and ease of mind and ensures residents can live a supported yet independent lifestyle. Residents benefit from specialist floors catering for differing care requirements and additional special features have also been added to assist residents living with dementia.
Our charmingly furnished communal spaces, such as our large and spacious coffee lounge, are perfect for relaxing with a cup of tea or a slice of cake, or socialising with friends and loved ones. These spaces also benefit from views over our beautiful gardens, creating a sense of peace and serenity for our residents. Residents also have full use of our on-site hair salon.
Residents are also afforded great opportunities to socialise with one another, and other members of the local elderly community, during our social events held at The Brook, our special communal space. This bright and airy room forms a hub for the wider community, hosting activities such as coffee mornings and social clubs, which help to improve physical and mental wellbeing.
Fern Brook Lodge has 75 welcoming and comfortable, fully furnished rooms, each with en-suite wet rooms containing a w/c, a washbasin and a shower. Each room also contains a 24-hour nurse call bell, ensuring residents are comfortable, safe and expertly cared for. We give all our residents support and peace of mind, whether they need just a little assistance, or full-time care and we pride ourselves on doing everything possible to enhance our residents’ quality of life.
Nestled in the north Dorset countryside, we are perfectly located to benefit from the abundance of shops, cafés, restaurants and other facilities in the nearby Gillingham town centre. This enables residents to continue to do what they love, whether that’s popping out for a coffee with friends, assisted by a member of our excellent care team, or enjoying activities with visiting loved ones. Nothing is ever too much trouble for us when it comes to the care and comfort of our residents and we always go the extra mile to help residents safely maintain their lifestyle and independence.

Fern Brook Lodge is dedicated to ensuring our residents are able to get the most out of every day, whilst feeling safe and supported. For us, it’s all about delivering the three F’s –Food, Fun and Friendship–to enable our residents to live a happy andfulfilling lifestyle.
Recreational activities are organised by our activities coordinator(s) to ensure our residents are having fun and making friends, and range from baking and arts and crafts to visits from entertainers and day trips out to local points of interest and attractions.
No two residents are the same, and we love to learn about their amazing life stories, hobbies and interests. This helps us to build strong relationships with our residents and allows us to tailor our activities to suit their likes and favourite pastimes. Residents can be as involved as they wish and the activities team work hard to cater for our residents’ recreational desires, enabling them to continue to do the things they love, even if that simply involves sitting down and enjoying a card game or a puzzle.
We are always keen to improve and take advantage of the latest developments in technology that we believe will benefit our residents. For example, we currently use an innovative device from the Netherlands called the Tovertafel ‘Magic Table’, which is designed to improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia, encouraging physical activity, social interaction and mental stimulation.

Given our mission to provide our residents with the three F’s – Food, Fun and Friendship – mealtimes are very important to us and our residents love coming together to enjoy delicious, nutritious and wholesome meals with their friends.
Our menu is expertly crafted by our talented Chefs, working closely with our Caterings Operations Manager, and is cooked and prepared onsite by our skilled kitchen staff. We are passionate about providing high-quality food for our residents, therefore, we cater for all of their dietary requirements and meal preferences and always seek to maintain the same high standards when preparing alternative meals. Refreshments are also available for residents throughout the day.
We currently hold a food hygiene rating of 5/5 stars (date of inspection: 09/08/2019) and strive to provide delicious and nutritious, high-quality meals for all of our residents.
We are dedicated to protecting our residents and staff. We have taken the following measures in order to keep everyone at Fern Brook Lodge safe.
Employees and residents in our care homes are regularly tested for COVID-19 in line with Government guidelines.
An extensive vaccination programme has been implemented across residents and employees in our care homes.
Employees in our care homes are provided with all personal protective equipment in line with Government guidelines.
Rigorous cleaning and infection control procedures are maintained and monitored daily in our care homes in line with Government guidelines.
Visits are allowed in designated visitor areas and can be made by appointment with the Home Manager.
Staying in touch
All our care homes have tablets with Skype and Zoom enabling video calls with loved ones.

All employees take part in on-going training and are kept regularly up to date with the latest guidance.
Although we aren’t able to offer visits to our care homes just yet, you are more than welcome to view our homes via our remote tours.

The Brook is a hub for activities open to the wider community to use for free. Although it is part of Fern Brook Lodge, The Brook is available for the Gillingham community to use for special events or group meetings.
