Wickmeads has a number of charmingly furnished communal spaces, including our bright communal lounges, that provide the perfect place to unwind with a cup of tea and a slice of cake, or to socialise with friends and loved ones. Our lounges overlook our beautifully landscaped garden, that is not only bursting with gorgeous greenery and vibrant flowers, but also contains a stunning water feature, as well as a sensory garden, helping to provide residents with a sense of peace and tranquillity. Residents also have full use of our on-site hair salon and will soon be able to enjoy our very own café which is currently being built.
Wickmeads has 50 welcoming and comfortable, fully furnished rooms, each with en-suite wet rooms containing a w/c, a washbasin and a shower, as well as a 24-hour nurse call bell, ensuring residents are comfortable, safe and expertly cared for. We give all our residents support and peace of mind, whether they need just a little assistance, or full-time care and we pride ourselves on doing everything possible to enhance our residents’ quality of life.
Wickmeads is perfectly located to benefit from the local shops and services available in the nearby historic market town of Christchurch. We are also blessed with many amazing natural beauty spots on our doorstep, such as Tuckton Gardens and the River Stour. In addition, thanks to our close proximity to Bournemouth and Southbourne, there are lots of gorgeous sandy beaches on offer, as well as spectacular walking opportunities along the stunning coastline.
These features make this area an amazing place to live and provide plenty for residents and visiting loved ones to do. Our great location also enables residents to continue to do what they love, whether that’s popping out for a coffee with friends, assisted by a member of our excellent care team, or enjoying activities with visitors. Nothing is ever too much trouble for us when it comes to the care and comfort of our residents and we always go the extra mile to help residents safely maintain their lifestyle and independence.
We understand that looking for a care home can be a difficult and daunting process, but we want you to know that you are not alone. Please feel free to give us a call or fill out an enquiry form and we will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have, provide you with support throughout the process, or simply give you a better idea of life at Wickmeads.
Wickmeads is dedicated to ensuring our residents are able to get the most out of every day, whilst feeling safe and supported. For us, it’s all about delivering the three F’s –Food, Fun and Friendship– to enable our residents to live a happy and fulfilling lifestyle.
Recreational activities are organised by our activities coordinator(s) to ensure our residents are having fun and making friends, and range from baking and arts and crafts to visits from entertainers and day trips out to local points of interest and attractions. For example, residents have enjoyed visits from, and games with, A.F.C. Bournemouth’s Community Sports Trust, as well as trips down memory lane with some tailored reminiscence therapy activities.
No two residents are the same, and we love to learn about their amazing life stories, hobbies and interests. This helps us to build strong relationships with our residents and allows us to tailor our activities to suit their likes and favourite pastimes. Residents can be as involved as they wish and the activities team work hard to cater for our residents’ recreational desires, enabling them to continue to do the things they love, even if that simply involves sitting down and enjoying a card game or a puzzle.
Please see below for more of the activities that we have been enjoying at Wickmeads recently.
“I love to cook for the residents and see their faces light up when they have enjoyed a good meal. They particularly enjoy the Sunday evening buffet.” – Wickmeads Chef Francis Scott

Tracey Walker – Home Manager
“I’ve worked in the care sector for 30 years in total and not a day goes by that I do not love my job and the people I look after. Seeing a smile and achieving the best outcome for them is what makes my job so rewarding. I’m also very proud of the staff at Wickmeads who are dedicated, caring, and always go the extra mile.
The views and opinions of residents are very important to me and I like to involve them in decisions governing what is essentially their home.”
