Honouring Service and Sacrifice: Gerry Joins Weymouth Armed Forces Celebrations
On Sunday 22 June, one of our much-loved residents, Gerry, proudly represented Buxton House at the Weymouth Armed Forces Celebrations, attending the moving Service of Remembrance and taking part in the parade that followed.
Accompanied by two members of our wonderful activities team, Gerry made his way around the route with great dignity, with the team taking turns to push his wheelchair. The atmosphere was filled with pride, reflection and unity, and for Gerry, the experience was both emotional and deeply meaningful.
A Day of Remembrance and Pride
As a veteran himself, taking part in the parade meant a great deal to Gerry. He shared that it brought back many memories and was a poignant reminder of the comradeship and sacrifice of those who have served.
“It was emotional – but I’m proud to have taken part,” Gerry said quietly, taking in the moment.
The parade and remembrance service were attended by many, and it was clear just how important it was to have veterans like Gerry involved. His presence didn’t go unnoticed — two fellow veterans approached him after the event to personally thank him for his service, and in a touching gesture, they treated him to an ice cream to end the day on a sweet note.
Fish, Chips and Friendship
Following the parade, Gerry and the team enjoyed a traditional fish and chip lunch by the sea, soaking in the fresh air and warm appreciation from those around them.
