Training and development

We are committed to ensuring that you get the best training, personal learning, and development so that we can provide the highest level and quality of care across all our services. We have an onsite Learning and Development Team to support you with this. Whether you have experience already, or are new to the care sector, we will provide you with all the training you need and ongoing support.

From day one you will be taken through a role-specific induction programme which will include face-to-face training (subject to social distancing rules, if applicable), on-line learning, questionnaires, and support in the workplace.

Once you are fully trained and confident in the role you have been employed to do, we will continue to support you to maintain and extend your skills and knowledge through regular refresher and update training.

You will have the opportunity to undertake work-based qualifications relevant to your role. We actively encourage people to develop their skills, grow through professional development and look to develop their longer-term careers with us. There are a range of ways to do this which include nationally recognised qualifications and accreditation.

The diploma qualifications (previously known as NVQs) which are available, are:

• Adult Care Worker, Level 2
• Lead Adult Care Worker, Level 3
• Leader in Adult Care, Level 5
• Business Administrator, Level 3
• Healthcare Cleaning Operative, Level 2
• Hospitality Team Member, Level 2
• Production Chef, Level 2
• Senior Chef Production Cooking, Level 3

We want our colleagues to love working with us at Care South and we will do everything we can to harness your skills, passion for the role and support your ongoing growth and development with us.

We now offer Institute of Leadership and Management learning and certificate qualification for our senior staff including Home Managers and Operations Managers.

See below for details on how some of our team members have developed their careers with us at Care South.

Adam

Head Chef,
Fremington Manor

Adam joined Care South in 2011 as a temporary Housekeeper and went on to do some shifts in the kitchen. With an appetite for learning, Adam progressed from 4th Chef to Head Chef at Fremington Manor, undertaking a Level 2 Diploma in Catering. He has also just finished his Level 3 Diploma and other modular training. He now prepares and cooks meals on a grand scale for around 60 residents which he had never experienced before.

Having completed a Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Catering, as well as other modular training, Adam feels that these have provided him with the knowledge and skills to be a good manager, deal with stocktaking and to engage with residents, staff, and the public.

Cristian

Care Assistant,
Fairlawn

Cristian joined Care South as an agency Care Worker and then on a permanent basis in 2018 after enjoying the role so much. Having worked as a Sailor for ten years in Romania and then running his own small business, joining Care South felt like his second home!

Cristian decided to do a Level 2 Diploma as he wanted to know more about care, improve his English and increase his knowledge about his role as Care Assistant.

Cristian would recommend undertaking a diploma as it is always good to learn and know of any new approaches or methods. It also demonstrates how to be more open-minded and compassionate with the people we support.

Conner

Learning and Development Advisor, Head Office

Conner commenced his career in care as a Care Assistant when he undertook his Level 2 Diploma in Health and Social Care. He went on to undertake his Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care but decided to change his career path into Learning and Development and commenced his Level 3 Diploma in Education and Training.

Conner has a real appetite for self-development and is now challenging himself to undertake his Level 5 Diploma in Learning and Development Consultant/BP. Conner has found that each diploma has given him more experience and confidence in his current job role and prepared him for the next step in his career. He has commented that undertaking his diplomas has been a fantastic experience and would recommend anyone doing this.

Ellie

Deputy Manager,
Fairlawn

Ellie was one of the first staff in Care South to undertake the new diploma as it transitioned from NVQs. Ellie joined Care South ten years ago with a brief break in between. She loves the company and its values so jumped at the opportunity to return as a Care Team Leader at Fairlawn, which provided the opportunity to step into first line management that she had been seeking.

Whilst Ellie was undertaking her diplomas, she felt she was really well supported. She found that her Level 2 reinforced the knowledge that she had of her job. Her Level 3 was more in-depth and broadened her knowledge, and her Level 5 helped her understand the difference between management and leadership, to build on her knowledge and understanding of her role and affirmed her strengths.
