Musical fun gets residents moving at Maiden Castle House
Residents at Care South’s Maiden Castle House in Dorchester enjoyed a lively start to their Sunday with a music and movement session led by a new member of the home’s activities team.
Several residents joined Fee Jeanes for a fun exercise session set to a soundtrack of golden oldies and disco classics, combining gentle movement with plenty of smiles and enjoyment.
A new face in the activities team
Fee has recently joined the activities team at Maiden Castle House following a long career as both a nurse and a dance teacher.
Her experience brings together an understanding of health and wellbeing with a passion for movement, music and helping people enjoy being active.
Fee said: “As a trained nurse, I know it is extremely important for seniors to stay active both physically and mentally. These sessions help raise their pulse rates and their spirits!”
Moving to much-loved music
The session gave residents the opportunity to enjoy gentle exercise while listening to familiar songs, with the music helping to create a relaxed and upbeat atmosphere.
Activities such as music and movement can also provide an enjoyable social opportunity, bringing residents together and encouraging everyone to participate in a way that feels comfortable for them.
At Care South, activity programmes are designed around residents’ interests and abilities, creating opportunities to remain active, try something different and enjoy time with friends.
A Sunday full of activity
The musical exercise session was only the beginning of a busy Sunday at Maiden Castle House, with residents also preparing to take part in a game of balloon volleyball later in the day.
It made for a fun-filled day of movement, friendly competition and companionship, reflecting Care South’s ethos of Food, Fun and Friendship.
The activities team at Maiden Castle House organises a varied programme throughout the year, giving residents plenty of opportunities to enjoy familiar hobbies, discover new interests and spend meaningful time together.
