Big Butterfly Count at Fern Brook Lodge

24th July 2020

Residents at Fern Brook Lodge care home, Gillingham, have been making the most of the recent good  weather by getting out in the garden and taking part in the annual Big Butterfly Count.

Thanks to the buddleia bushes, there was a wide range of the colourful insects on display at Fern Brook Lodge.

The Big Butterfly Count was launched by Chris Packham and the wildlife charity Butterfly Conservation. It is a UK-wide survey aimed at helping the group assess the health of our environment by counting the amount and type of butterflies spotted.

It was launched in 2010 and has rapidly become the world’s biggest survey of butterflies. Over 113,500 citizen scientists took part in 2019, submitting 116,009 counts of butterflies and day-flying moths from across the UK.
