Care homes support Alzheimer’s Society with baking
Despite the lockdown putting the brakes on many fundraisers, Care South’s homes have been busy baking to raise nearly £300 for the Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day.
At Fairlawn in Ferndown, the residents got involved in decorating the cakes, while families, staff and friends at Alexandra House care home in Poole raised a fantastic total of £211. Emily, who is head chef at the care home, even baked a special cake for the occasion, challenging people to guess how many sprinkles it was decorated with.
At Queensmead care home in Christchurch, staff held a ‘Bake-Off’ competition. Residents were the judges for the Best Looking Cake round, won by activities lead, Lesley Wheal for her chocolate cake, while the care home’s chefs chose the tastiest entry – raspberry and white chocolate cupcakes made by deputy manager Kirstel Wareham.
The winning pair were awarded prizes, while residents got to enjoy the entries with an afternoon tea.
