Care homes welcome in the Chinese New Year

25th January 2020

Two care homes put on a day of themed activities to celebrate Chinese New Year.

Welcoming in the Year of the Rat, both St Martins Grange care home in Gillingham and Alexandra House in Poole got creative.

St Martins Grange was decorated with Chinese pictures, tassels, fans, lanterns and dragons, which had been coloured in by residents. The party food included sesame prawn toasts, spring rolls, prawn crackers, fortune cookies, Chinese doughnuts and milk and white chocolate rats.

The residents also made some lotus blossom tea light holders for the occasion in their recent art and craft session.

At Alexandra House, residents made fortune cookies, while Chef Emily put on a special Chinese menu for the day.

The residents enjoyed tasting the different flavoured foods, with the prawn crackers and sweet chilli dipping sauce being a firm favourite that will be added to the home’s snack menus.

They also took some time to look up the animal of the year they were born in, discussing the characteristics that go with it.
