Residents at Castle Dene care home in Bournemouth love to relive memories from their past. Before the lockdown, one of the most popular activities was welcoming Catherine from The Memory Box Project at The Wessex Heritage Trust.
During her visits, Catherine would bring items to prompt cherished memories for residents, focused around subjects such as schooldays, music, and baking.
So Castle Dene was delighted to receive a memory box delivery from Catherine, as well as weekly virtual resources to ensure the residents don’t miss out.
The Memory Box Project aims to engage, support & share memories with people living with dementia. It is National Lottery-funded, meaning the service is provided free of charge.
During Memory box sessions, Catherine use a variety of tools to stimulate four of the five senses – touch, sight, hearing and smell – to evoke memories of the past for all participating.
