Inspectors heap praise on Castle Dene care home
Inspectors have heaped praise on Care South’s Castle Dene care home, reaffirming its ‘Good’ rating following the latest inspection.
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated the Bournemouth care home as ‘Good’ in all areas, which includes being safe, effective, caring, responsive and well led. That follows the previous inspection in early 2017 that also rated the home as ‘Good’ in all areas.
Inspectors found residents at Castle Dene were “treated with kindness and supported emotionally by staff who knew them well”. The report added: “People received person centred care that recognised their diversity and was responsive to changing needs.
“The culture of the home was open and transparent with visible leadership and teamwork.
“People and their families spoke positively about the care. One relative told us, “It’s like a family here; they are all so lovely”.
“We observed staff having warm, kind interactions with people when they needed emotional support.”
Praising the staff at Castle Dene, Director of Residential Care Aaron Whitehead said: “Retaining a ‘Good’ rating in all areas is a great achievement for the team and I’d like to thank them for their hard work and passion to provide excellent care.”
The latest inspection follows news earlier this year of a deal between Care South and BCP Council (then Bournemouth Borough Council) to extend the care home’s lease.
Care South has run the 50-bed home based in Throop Road since 1991, with the deal in April extending the lease by another 15 years.
