Residents come together for Nutrition and Hydration Week

23rd March 2020

Care South residents got involved in a range of tasty food and drink-themed events to mark Nutrition and Hydration Week 2020.

Nutrition and Hydration Week is held annually to educate the importance of food and drink in maintaining physical and mental well-being in the social care sector. It was held between the 16 – 22 March, with a showpiece Global Tea Party on 18th March.

Although plans to share the tea party and Smoothie Saturday with members of the public had to be put on hold, due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) restrictions, Care South’s homes still organised activities for the residents.

At Fremington Manor care home in Barnstaple and Dorset House in Poole, residents enjoyed on a tea party with fresh scones, jam and cream, while Queensmead in Christchurch held a cheese tasting session with sherry and beer. Staff also organised a chocolate fondue morning and mocktail tasting.

At Kenwith Castle in Bideford, residents were challenged to blindfolded games of guess the vegetable and guess the cordial, while there were sweet treats for everyone at Fairlawn, in Ferndown.

Meanwhile, Alexandra House care home in Poole organised a range of new and exotic teas and juices for the residents to try.
