Residents enjoy private tour of AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium
Residents from eight of Care South’s care homes across Dorset experienced life behind the football scenes in a memorable visit to tour AFC Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium this weekend.
The residents, all avid football fans, were accompanied by relatives and carers on the day as they enjoyed their very own private tour of the stadium. The day started off with an introduction from the AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust team about the stadium, followed by a tour of the changing rooms, media centre, shop and treatment areas where players recover after the matches, often with ice baths.
The invited guests were also led out onto the pitch through the Cherries’ tunnel. Many of the residents were surprised at how large the stadium felt from a footballer’s perspective stood on the pitch and were so delighted with the experience.
The stadium tour was thanks to the ongoing partnership between AFC Bournemouth and Care South, which began in 2014. The partnership allows residents, home care clients and staff members to get involved in a variety of activities, including meeting players, regular visits to the homes for armchair football, coffee mornings and trips to the Vitality Stadium.
Christopher Parsons, Marketing Manager at Care South, commented: “Everyone had such a fantastic day touring the stadium and hearing all about how the club prepares and runs match days. Getting out on the pitch was a highlight for many, bringing back memories of their own days playing football when they were younger. We are so proud of our partnership with AFC Bournemouth, which our residents love, and it’s fantastic that they have offered this experience for them and continue to visit our homes to run lots of activities for our residents and home care clients. A big thank you to them for making the tour so special for everyone.”
