Friends of Sussexdown

How it all began
In 1998 Sussexdown – whilst still under the ownership of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) – held a garden party to help raise money for the residents.
This became the first of many events and subsequently, over the years, a dedicated group of individuals from RAFA and the home, now known as Friends of Sussexdown, has raised many tens of thousands of pounds from similar events.
When Care South took over ownership of the home in 2007, the Friends of Sussexdown Committee continued, and is now stronger than ever.

What we do
Friends of Sussexdown provides a wide range of year-round events and activities for residents, as well as helping to fund larger projects at the home.

These include:
Monthly funding for the Sussexdown Activities department
A birthday, Easter and Christmas gift for each resident
Residents’ Christmas party
Thank you hamper given to each staff department at Christmas
Bonfire Night celebration event
Weekly funded service in the chapel
Regular trips out in the home’s minibus
Purchase of iPads for residents to use, to keep in touch with family and friends who live away

Fundraising events and activities
Helping to raise funds for the home and its residents, Friends of Sussexdown organises a number of fundraising events throughout the year, including:

Easter Coffee Morning, including a popular children’s Easter Egg hunt in the home’s gardens
