St Ives House Introduces Namaste Care for Residents
Supporting World Alzheimer’s Month
As part of World Alzheimer’s Month, the team at St Ives House are proud to be introducing Namaste Care into the home for our residents. This calm, sensory-based approach is designed to enhance comfort, connection and overall quality of life for those living with dementia.
Learning About Namaste Care
To support this new initiative, Karen Hodges – Care South’s Dementia Lead – hosted an information session in the Bistro, welcoming staff and families to learn more about the principles and benefits of Namaste Care.
During the session, Karen explained how Namaste Care uses gentle sensory stimulation – such as soothing touch, music, aromatherapy, and a calm environment – to create meaningful experiences for residents. The focus is on helping individuals feel comforted, connected and valued, while supporting their wellbeing in a very personal way.
Positive Benefits for Residents
Staff and relatives at St Ives House were eager to hear how Namaste Care has been shown to reduce anxiety, encourage relaxation and improve communication for people living with dementia. By focusing on a resident’s senses and emotions, this approach helps foster moments of joy and connection, even when words may be difficult.
The introduction of Namaste Care at St Ives House has been welcomed with great enthusiasm, with both staff and families keen to see the positive difference it will bring to the dementia community within the home.

Looking Ahead
The team at St Ives House are excited to begin this journey and to see how Namaste Care will enrich the daily lives of residents. As one relative shared after the session, learning about Namaste Care has given them “hope and reassurance that loved ones will continue to feel comforted and connected in meaningful ways.”
At Care South, we are committed to providing care that reflects our values of food, fun and friendship, while also embracing new approaches that bring dignity, comfort and joy to those we support.
