St Ives House residents get into the rhythm with drumming workshop
Residents at Care South’s St Ives House recently enjoyed a lively drumming workshop with Dawn, combining music, movement and plenty of fun.
The session gave residents the chance to learn new drumming routines while enjoying a shared activity designed to encourage movement, coordination and social connection.
Drumming with a difference
Rather than traditional drums, residents used drumsticks to play rhythms on air-filled exercise balls, creating an energetic and engaging session for everyone involved.
The workshop began with a gentle warm-up before residents learned a number of drumming routines, following the beat together and building confidence as the session progressed.
The activity was designed to help strengthen core muscles and support coordination, while giving residents an enjoyable way to stay active.
Dolly Parton proves a firm favourite
One of the highlights of the session was a fast-paced routine set to Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’.
Despite the quicker tempo, residents kept up brilliantly and thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, with plenty of smiles throughout.
After the main routines, the group finished with a gentle warm-down, again using the drumsticks to support the movements.
Fun, movement and friendship
Everyone agreed it was a wonderful way to spend time together, with the session bringing plenty of laughter, encouragement and friendship.
At St Ives House, activities are designed to support residents’ physical and emotional wellbeing while creating opportunities to try something different and enjoy shared experiences with others.
Sessions like this perfectly reflect Care South’s ethos of Food, Fun and Friendship, combining movement with music and companionship in a relaxed and supportive setting.
