Residents at St Ives House have been delighted to welcome a new addition to the home’s activities planner with the arrival of a special sweet trolley.

Filled with a colourful selection of sweets old and new, the trolley has quickly become a popular feature, giving residents the chance to choose their favourite treats and enjoy a little taste of nostalgia. From traditional classics to more modern favourites, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

As residents helped themselves to the sweet treats on offer, the activity soon became about far more than confectionery. The trolley sparked lively conversation, laughter and wonderful reminiscence as residents shared stories, facts and fond memories connected to sweets from their childhoods.

Many spoke about visiting local sweet shops as children, favourite treats they used to save up for and the excitement of choosing sweets to enjoy with family and friends. These moments of reminiscence can be incredibly valuable, helping to stimulate memories, encourage conversation and create meaningful social connection.

One resident, Sue, shared a lovely memory of being sent to the shop to buy her father’s favourite sherbet lemons. She explained that if she was quick, he would reward her with one of the sweets herself, a memory that brought smiles to everyone listening.
