The “Ladies of Wickmeads” visit the Dolphin Shopping Centre
The “Ladies of Wickmeads” have a myriad of activities they love to indulge in, with shopping being one of their favourites. They decided to venture off to an indoor shopping centre in search of bargains. For many of these ladies, it was their first time visiting the Dolphin Centre, while others had not been there for many years, making it interesting to see the changes.
Upon entering the shopping arcade, they headed over to Beales Department Store, where they were greeted by a tempting array of handbags. They sifted through those on Sale, ensuring they had matching shoes. Next, they checked out the Sale Rails of clothing. Jean spotted a fetching long flowing dress that she thought would look lovely on her, but changed her mind upon seeing the price, wondering aloud how it could be called “On Sale” as they wandered off towards the jewellery counter.
Rosemary found a charming set of earrings priced at just £10, and quickly bought them before anyone else could. She exclaimed, “There is nothing better than buying yourself a treat every now and then.”
Their shopping adventure continued as they visited Primark, prompted by Penny’s search for warm socks to combat her cold feet. Once inside, they took the lift to the first floor, where Penny found herself in “Sock Heaven.”
Meanwhile, Pat, who had been happily married to a policeman for many years, couldn’t resist flirting with a passing security guard. Rosemary couldn’t stop laughing at Pat’s attempt to strike up a conversation, teasingly saying, “We can’t take you anywhere.” Pat retorted that they were meant to be shopping for things that caught their fancy, to which Rosemary responded, “Clothes, not men.” “Spoilsport!” said Pat as they headed to look at some winter jackets.
As their shopping adventure continued, they came across a piano which Jo, the Activity Assistant, promptly played. The Wickmeads Ladies gathered around and sang a verse of “You Are My Sunshine.”
With their shopping done, they had built up quite an appetite and headed to the Clipper Restaurant for a fish and chip lunch. Nina remarked, “We do know how to live it up,” as she enjoyed her food.
Before long, lunch was over, and it was time to head to the awaiting minibus and back home with their shopping bags in tow. Penny asked Hudson, the Activities Lead, about their next shopping adventure, to which he replied, “Let me get over this one first, as it was quite an experience going shopping with five ladies.”
