With Valentine’s Day upon them, the residents at Wickmeads decided to celebrate Love Week. The week began with a visit from Misty, the Caring Canine and lovely blue merle collie, which all the dog lovers among the residents thoroughly enjoyed.

In the Stour Lounge, they held a Valentine Quiz where they tried to guess famous couples, from Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez, to Mark Anthony and Cleopatra. As each picture went around the room, the common refrain was, “We know their faces but not sure of their names!”

The residents on the Avon Floor participated in some Valentine Arts and Crafts with Joh, the visiting artist. She showed them how to make flowers and Valentine Cards for that special someone in their lives.

An extra special surprise came when seven toddlers from Kings Castle Nursery paid an unexpected visit, bringing love-heart biscuits and Valentine Cup Cakes for the residents. The residents had so much fun with the young ones, singing nursery rhymes and letting the toddlers play sensory games on a tiny tablet as a special treat.

Jean mentioned that she missed receiving Valentine Cards, so Hudson, the Activity Lead, made a special one for her and handed it to her in the morning, with a big question mark as to who could be her secret admirer. It didn’t take Jean long to realize that Hudson had made the card for her, as she gave him a cheeky grin.

To round off the week, the residents had a Valentine Sing-A-Long led by Hudson. The residents sang songs from various decades with Hudson performing a Rat Pack montage, and they enjoyed a good old pub sing-along. Stuart expressed his wish for such events every week, to which Hudson replied, “We will have more sing-a-longs next month,” prompting cheers and applause from the entire room.

“It is great that we can all enjoy this time of year and share the love,” said Pat.
