The Stour Lounge at Wickmeads was filled with anticipation as Jane Kerfoot took the stage and introduced her pianist, Natalie Dolton, alongside her sister, who was visiting from Devon for the day. Jane wore a lovely flowery dress, which received many compliments from the ladies in the audience.

The performance began with Jane singing a selection of songs from classic musicals, including some MGM favourites. She then transitioned seamlessly into reciting poems and monologues, featuring works by Pam Ayres and Joyce Grenfell. Laughter and giggles filled the room as Jane entertained the audience, sharing intriguing secrets from the world of musicals. One surprising revelation was that Audrey Hepburn’s singing was dubbed, with the actual singer going uncredited. Jane followed this anecdote by performing All I Want Is A Room Somewhere, encouraging the audience to sing along, creating a warm, communal atmosphere.

Jane also shared heartfelt family memories, particularly of her mother’s love for singing and poetry. She introduced her sister to read one of their mother’s favourite poems, adding a personal touch to the performance.

Maurice, a member of the audience, smiled throughout and remarked that this was one of his favourite performances ever held at Wickmeads.

The show concluded with a rapturous round of applause and cheers as the performers took a bow. Hudson, the Activities Lead, announced plans to rebook the act later in the year, noting how uplifting the performance had been for everyone in attendance.
